Health and fitness are two words that we have heard on a daily basis. When we go to school, we have our physical education classes where we are trained to be fit. Health and fitness are two sides of the same coin. If you are fit, then you are healthy!

Often we have heard phrases like “Health is wealth”, but have we wondered why do people say so? It is because if you are healthy, then you will be able to work harder and earn more wealth in your life. Let us see what the definitions for health and fitness are.

What is health?

Being ‘healthy’ means a state of being completely physically and mentally well. It is dependent on a lot of factors such as hygiene, environment and food intake. If a person wants to live their life fully, they need to be healthy. For example, if you get tired very easily after taking a flight of stairs, or you are eating too much junk food, then you are not really healthy. If you eat more vegetables and fruits and a balanced meal 3 times a day, then you are on the healthy path.

What is fitness?

Fitness is not about how much you can run or walk in a day, it is also about the discipline that you follow in everyday life. If one has control over what they eat in the day and how much they exercise, then they can be fit and can do anything thrown at their feet.

Things that affect one’s health and fitness:

There are many things that affect one’s health. Let us look at some factors.

  • Avoiding vegetables and fruits.

  • Not exercising daily.

  • Consumption of alcohol and tobacco.

  • Quality of environment.

  • Diseases that are passed on hereditarily.

Tips to stay healthy and fit:

To stay healthy and fit, we need to create a balance between our head, body and soul. It is important to exercise daily to maintain a balance of calories in your body.

Yoga is known to be beneficial to maintain a good body balance. Eating less oily and fatty food can also result in a well-balanced diet. It is better to avoid smoking and drinking so that one can stay healthy for a very long time.
