How I Went From Being Scared to Speak to Winning My First School Presentation
By PlanetSpark
But my teachers encouraged me to keep trying
They told me that making mistakes was okay and that every good speaker starts as a beginner.
The Challenges I Faced
My journey was not perfect.
There were days when I didn't feel like speaking.
There was also a time when my regular teacher changed. I was upset because I liked learning from my original teacher. It took me some time to adjust to a new teacher.
I remember telling my parents, "I want my old teacher back."
There was also a small technical problem once when I couldn't join class on time. I was disappointed because I had prepared for the session.
My parents contacted support and spoke with Ayushi Gupta and Prashansa Ma’am. The issue took some time to resolve, but everyone was helpful and explained what was happening.
One day, I was asked to tell a story during class.
Normally, I would be nervous.
But this time, I decided to try my best.
I spoke about a superhero who saves animals and protects nature. When I finished, my teacher smiled and said I had done a great job.
That made me feel proud.
Slowly, I started participating more.
I began answering questions, sharing opinions, and speaking during discussions.
The more I practiced, the easier it became.
My School Presentation
A few months later, my school announced a classroom presentation activity.
Earlier, I would have been very scared.
But this time, I felt different.
I prepared my topic, practiced speaking clearly, and stood in front of my classmates.
I was still nervous, but I didn't stop.
When I finished, my teacher appreciated my effort, and my friends clapped for me.
That was one of the happiest moments of my school year.
What I Learned
The biggest lesson I learned is that confidence doesn't come in one day.
You have to practice again and again.
Sometimes you make mistakes.
Sometimes you feel nervous.
But if you keep trying, you get better.
Today, I enjoy sharing stories, speaking in class, and talking to new people.
Final Thoughts
- If there are other students like me who feel shy while speaking, I want to tell them something:
- It's okay to be nervous.
- It's okay to make mistakes.
- Every confident speaker was once afraid to speak too.
- Just keep practicing, believe in yourself, and never be afraid to use your voice.
- You might surprise yourself with what you can achieve. 😊
